The Collaboration project I did was with Tabatha Swann, and Ms. Swann was a very nice person and easy to work with. Our project was not hard but we had to come put with a way to demonstrate how to work a Flip Video Camera, which I have to say was kind of rough since the instructions for the device we as plain as day. The Meeting together part of the collaborative project was the hard part since Ms. Swann and I kept having trouble coming up with a place to meet since a lot of classes overlaped when one of us would have the free time, so we kept texting each other our plans and ideas so that when we got together we could get straight to the video. Our idea was to focus on the camera itself so people who are watching can see our demonstration without distractions, and to achieve this we zoomed our camera in to get a close up of Ms. Swann's hands holding and showing the device as well as how to use it. My thoughts on the video are mixed there are some things that could have been edited and some things that should have been omited, but with finals this week and Ms. Swann living so far off, we decided that this was all we were going to get in before the semester ends. One thing that I do like about our video is the close up on device becuase most of the time when someone is demonstrating something you see more of them then you do what they are demonstrating.
The First Video I watched was on ecosystems with a young man and woman going over the different types of ecosystems that exist. Their main focus is on our ecosystem found here in beautiful Huntington, WV. They start their show by explaining what an ecosystem is and what can be found in them. When they start teaching about the deciduous forest they tell about the annual rainfall, the annual temperature as well as the different kinds of zones that are in a deciduous forest. Next the guy does a rap on the different zones which I got to say if funny and embarrassing. The video was very informative and students may like viewing this just to watch the funny rap video near the end. They end the video with the types of animals that live in the forest. The Second Video I watched was on positive reinforcement. The video had the same woman who played the four different roles, one being a positive reinforcement teacher and her student whom she rewards for staying quiet during quiet time, and the other is a mean teacher with her student who keeps getting in trouble and the teacher forces him to sit on the wall everyday during recess. As the video goes it shows how positive reinforcement can have an effect on the classroom, where if you reward students for good things they do instead of nagging them all the time you may get what you want. With the mean teacher it shows that once she starts doing the reinforcement then the boy doesn’t get in as much trouble, and with the nice teacher her student gets to pick from a fun box when she stays quiet for the rest of the week. Finally the video was pretty good but there are really a good and a bad side to positive reinforcement and this young woman does a fine job showing the good side.
